Discoverers Writing Studies
Numerous studies have shown the benefits of teaching children to write using patterns found in great children’s literature. During the first semester of the Discoverers Writing Studies course, students will read a variety of Just So Stories by Rudyard Kipling, using them to apply gospel principles, making connections to their lives, acting them out, and then retelling them in their own words. The semester will culminate in students creating their own just so tale.
In the second semester, students will study tall tales, employing the same building blocks of written expression found in the first semester. They will conclude the semester by writing their own tall tale.
The following readings will be associated with the Discoverers Writing Studies:
Discoverers Semester 1
- Just So Stories Just So Stories by Rudyard Kipling (Illustrated) This is a little more expensive, but the artwork is so colorful and engaging. Another version will work, but won’t capture your child’s imagination in the same way.
