Laurence has been a teacher for 3 years. She teaches yoga and her classes have had up to 10 students.
Laurence became familiar with Ensign Peak Academy through a friend of hers who was already teaching yoga. When her friend left, she took the opportunity to teach it in her friend’s place.
Now for my mentor interview with Laurence Hill.
What do you love about your subject? Tell us about how you became interested in that subject.
I love that it helps the youth take the time out of the day to take care of themselves and their bodies. I also love how it teaches the youth to listen to their bodies and understand what they need.
Honestly, I started doing yoga when I was 16 and just loved it so I figured I might as well teach it. Before that, I taught piano and found out that I love to teach.
Why did you decide to become a teacher?
From a very young age (I am the oldest of 8 kids) I helped to teach the younger kids how to read. The church also gives us many opportunities to teach, and it always seemed to come naturally to me.
How did you become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? What does that mean to you?
I was born into the church, so was taught from when I was little. My mother was a convert and my father’s parents were converts.
Being a member of the church is my whole life. I know why I am here on Earth and that I want to become a better person. The gospel brings all meaning into my life.
Tell us about yourself and your family.

I’m married. My husband and I have a dog. We also have a baby due in June. Outside of school, I teach piano. Also, I’m originally from Quebec, Canada.
Where do you live?
Texas, Forth Worth.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love music in many forms. I play the guitar, harp, and piano. So I’m involved in music all the time.
I like to hike and be outdoors. Reading books is one of my favorite things. I love the classics like Pride and Prejudice, Anne of Green Gables, and The Five AM Club.

What is something unique about you?
I’m French Canadian and grew up speaking French.
What hopes do you have for your students?
I hope that my students will come out of my class knowing their self-worth and self-identity. Also, I hope that they have found new ways to listen to their bodies and to have the desire to exercise. Lastly, I hope that they notice the difference they feel in their body when they aren’t exercising.
