Those who attended our 2022 Commencement remember with warmth and affection the speeches given that day. We thought you’d like a lift today, by reading this speech, given by one of our graduates: Jocelyn Yates.
“Hi everyone! My name is Jocelyn!! I have been attending Ensign Peak for five years and have absolutely loved my experience. I have made so many new friends and have been blessed with so many opportunities because of this school.
Many of these opportunities were leadership opportunities. For example, this week at Sim Week, I was able to participate as a Sim Team member. My role included giving speeches, answering many questions, and leading part of the military. Other times have provided me with opportunities that have led me to find what I am going to spend my life doing, being teaching and traveling the world. I can honestly say I don’t think I would’ve gotten to that point without this school.
Something I have always wanted to do is serve a mission. Throughout high school, that desire has only grown stronger. With each lesson, gospel principles were applied. My relationship with God and my family grew stronger and stronger as well. Starting each class with a prayer and being surrounded with those that have similar standards also helped strengthen me and my testimony. By strengthening my testimony, I was strengthened in my desire to love and serve others as well.
Ensign Peak has also prepared me for college in many ways. It taught me how to lead and how to manage time, manage finances and prepare for a career.
Switching to Ensign Peak Academy from public school was undoubtedly one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It has prepared me for my future in so many ways I wouldn’t have been prepared for in public schooling. I am so grateful for the doors that have been opened and closed because of the choice I made to attend Ensign Peak.
I want to finish this talk with bearing my testimony. I know that God loves me and watches over each and every one of us. He is aware of our situations and puts us where we are in our lives for a reason. There is purpose behind every aspect of our lives. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true church.
I am so grateful for all the things I have been able to go through in my life and for all of the people I have met. I am so grateful for this school and for all of my teachers and the lessons that I have been taught. I feel so much gratitude for my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who has directed me down this path and who sacrificed so much for me. I am so grateful for my parents and siblings who have supported me through my schooling and other aspects of my life. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.”
